Historical Perspective: What happened to Ironton Mine?

The smelting and manufacture of iron objects goes back over 7,000 years, when Mesopotamia (Iraq) began the processing of iron from meteorites. At the time, it was considered to be a ceremonial metal and eight times more valuable than gold. The Iron Age began about 1300-1200 BC when iron became cheap enough to replace bronze.

Chronic wasting disease found at Sauk County deer farm

CWD has been found in two deer farms in Wisconsin.

The farms are located in Sauk and Taylor counties, according to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.

The Sauk County animal was a 9-year-old buck from a one-acre, single-fenced farm. The property’s exact location was not disclosed.

Ian Rogers of Reedsburg achieved academic excellence at the University of Kansas.

Rogers is studying in the college of liberal arts and sciences.

He was among the more than 6,500 undergraduates who made the list for the spring semester.

Vet Fest is just over 1 month away

One of Reedsburg’s largest run/walks is back but happening a bit later than usual this year.

Vet Fest will take place Sept. 18 at Nishan Park. The fundraiser for local veteran causes is normally held in the spring, but it had to be pushed back due to COVID-19.

Toastmasters group transitions to hybrid meetings

Reedsburg Area Toastmasters Club is now meeting in person after months of Zoom meetings.

The group now offers a hybrid model where participants can still join over the digital platform, or people can show up to attend in person.

A downtown shop has been operating under new owners since April 1 of this year.

Corey and Missy Frenz have been active with Lucy’s Main Street Mercantile, participating in events like Reedikulus Day and working hard to get the word out on their latest endeavor.

New Reedsburg superintendent works toward strategic plan, looks ahead to school year

The Reedsburg School District has a new captain at the helm.

Roger Rindo assumed his role as superintendent about two months ago. He spent the first month moving and getting settled and had his first official school board meeting in July.
