South Central DHI has unveiled its roster of top cows through July.

The No. 1 Holstein by cheese yield was O-1822 from Bells Udder Farm in Camp Douglas. She produced 43,463 pounds of milk that tested at 3.8 percent and 4402 cheese yield.

Evergreen boughs used for holiday decorating may have the added attraction of seed or pollen cones attached.

Most Christmas trees, including firs, lose their seed cones because they shatter to release the seeds.  Pines and spruces do not and hang onto some of the seed cones even after the seeds have fallen.

The Wonewoc Badgers held its monthly meeting at the Stillbrooks’ farm outside of Wonewoc on Nov. 14. The members enjoyed a horse-drawn hayride and an educational presentation about goats by Anna Roehling and Tessa Gehri.

Antlers, incorrectly called horns by some, are found in deer, elk, caribou and moose.  These boney structures are extended growths of the skull plate.

Antlers lack marrow but being true bone, are composed of calcium and phosphorus, along with other minerals.

Sauk County continues to show more signs of COVID-19 issues.

Between Nov. 16 and 22, another person died from the virus, bringing the death toll in the county to 68.

Also, there were 11 new hospitalizations and 279 new confirmed cases, according to data from Sauk County Public Health.

It was one of the toughest budget cycles yet for Sauk County. Despite that, taxpayers will get a break next year.

Sauk County Public Health will hold its next COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Nov. 18.

It will take place in the West Square Building basement,505 Broadway, Baraboo.

The 9 a.m. to noon session is for adults only. All three vaccine brands and boosters will be available.

Sauk County is among those who will be affected by State-issued grants to support workforce development.
