Sauk County begins Drive Sober campaign

Law enforcement agencies across Sauk County will be watching for impaired driving starting this weekend.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over begins Aug. 20 and continues through Labor Day, Sept. 6. The effort includes the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office and police departments in Reedsburg, Baraboo, Lake Delton, and Sauk Prairie.

Naturally Speaking: Wild rose hips

Some plants’ fruit have been given special names other that the plant. Acorn, the fruit of an oak, is a classic example. Rose hip is another.

A hip, while a fruit, contains a great deal of accessory tissue.

As a matter of fact, an apple is also an accessory fruit.

New State Trooper to be stationed in Sauk County

More than 40 cadets have graduated to become Wisconsin State Patrol officers, and one of them will work here in Sauk County.

Jacob Salamonski, a Green Bay native, has been assigned here following last week’s graduation ceremony in La Crosse.

Naturally Speaking: Woolly alder aphids

The woolly alder aphid is now in season. If maple trees or alder shrubs are about, you’ve seen them, little tufts of cotton-like material seemly floating about, but they are winged insects that fly. They produce strands of waxy material from their abdomens, which has the liking of cotton or wool. These guys are sap-drawing aphids.
