Sauk Prairie’s co-op hockey team — which included skaters from Mount Horeb — enjoyed a memorable season.
But the Eagles’ thrilling campaign ended on Feb. 9.
Sauk Prairie fell to WIAA Division 1 defending state champion Verona, 4-1, in a sectional semifinal game. The Eagles ended the year 12-2.
The River Valley High School boys varsity basketball team had four away games last week. The first was at Fennimore. River Valley led at the half 29-27, but Fennimore pulled ahead to take the game 61-45 in the end. Top scoring Blackhawks were Preston Hying with 11 points and Zach Gloudeman with 10.
The River Valley/Barneveld varsity girls gymnastics team had their final conference dual and their conference meet last week. RVB won both the dual and conference title.
Monday night the girls hosted Platteville/Belmont/Lancaster in a very close match won by River Valley/Barneveld with a score of 129.550 to 129.500.
The season came to a finish last Friday for the Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells/Mauston boys high school hockey co-op and the end came in a frustrating manner.
Reedsburg wound up not having a single game last week in high school boys basketball action as a scheduled home game with Sauk-Prairie was called off due to inclement weather and will not be made up with so little time left in the regular season. Reedsburg takes a 3-13 overall record into this final week of regular season play.
Reedsburg appears to be still clicking on all cylinders as they head to the WIAA Tournament series in girls basketball as the Beavers closed out the regular with two more lopsided wins at Fort Atkinson and on the home floor vs. Baraboo and they made some more program history in the process.
Weston saw a two-game girls basketball winning streak come to an end last Tuesday as the Silver Eagles ran into one of the top teams in the Ridge and Valley Conference with a trip to Kickapoo. The visitors came up short for the second time this season against the Panthers, dropping a 70-36 decision.
WAUKESHA — It had been more than a decade since the Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights swimmers notched a top-five finish at state.
That drought ended last Friday when the Eagles finished fourth at the WIAA Division 2 state meet held at Waukesha South High School.
