Volunteers needed to ring bells

The iconic red kettles are back out for the Christmas season.

The Salvation Army is again ringing bells to raise money, and volunteers are invited to join the Kettle Brigade.

Ringers are outside Quillin’s Quality Foods and Viking Village Foods.

Rock Springs student wins scholarship

Alexis Johnson of Rock Springs earned a scholarship at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Johnson, who is studying marketing, won a General Merit Award for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The amount was not disclosed. The university stated that it awarded nearly $2.2 million in scholarships.

Reedsburg Police Department undergoes accreditation process

The Reedsburg Police Department will receive a visit from the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group on Dec. 15.

Assessors will examine all aspects of the department’s policy, procedures, management, operation and support service.

A long-time columnist for the Reedsburg Independent has passed away.

The Rev. Raymond Harms died Dec. 3 at the age of 87.

Positive COVID-19 tests continue in Sauk County, but recovery exists

Sauk County keeps testing and monitoring for COVID-19.

Between last weekend and Monday night, the county added 91 more positive tests, bringing the overall number of confirmed positives to 3,815. These figures include all positives found this year.

Enjoying the sun...while it lasts

A gray squirrel snoozes in the sun on a fence in Reedsburg on Sunday afternoon. It’s been unseasonably mild lately, with temps reaching the upper 40s this week. The ground also remains bare of snow, despite some snowfall already this autumn. It doesn’t look like there will be any significant fluffy white stuff soon, either.
