Church youth group holds Lent soup dinners

Starting this week, the St. John Lutheran Church Youth Group will hold weekly drive-through soup suppers during Lent.

Meals will be offered from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays through March 24.

Slow turnout at Reedsburg polls

In spite of a contested Reedsburg School Board seat, turnout was as expected Tuesday at the Reedsburg City Hall polls.

Deputy City Clerk Julie Strutz said the day was off to a slow start, as is typical during primary elections. Four years ago, voter turnout was six percent, a standard figure. She expected as much this time.

PHOTOS: Reedsburg groups hold Groundhog's Day meal

On Feb. 2, a Groundhog’s Day drive-thru chili supper was held at Sacred Heart Parish. It was provided by the local Knights of Columbus and Thrivent Action Team. La Valle woman joins honor society

Marin Stowe of La Valle was one of 40 Wartburg College students who were recently inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma honor society.

Phi Eta Sigma is the oldest and largest freshman honor society. To qualify, a student must have a GPA of at least 3.5 and be in the top 20 percent of their class by the end of the first year.

Fire hydrants must be kept clear of snow and ice, like the one seen here, for the safety of all. Homeowners closest to hydrants are traditionally responsible but that doesn’t mean others can’t pitch in with a shovel if they see a hydrant that needs clearing.
