The Wisconsin Heights School Board was already discussing the seriousness of the COVID-19 virus at their meeting Monday, March 9th. Little did they know less than a week later school would be cancelled until April.

High school is a time of everyone’s life they will never forget--be it for better or for worse. And yet a lot of experiences feel universal in what everyone sees in high school. The tough jocks, the goofy teachers, and the countless embarrassing and awkward moments.

On Saturday, Feb. 29, under the guidance of teachers Aniela Haas and Gina Ademino, Wisconsin Heights High and Middle School band and choir students participated in the Capital Conference South District Solo & Ensemble Festival at Cambridge High School.

A referendum will take place on Tuesday, April 7.  Voters are being asked to approve borrowing to fund construction at Sauk Prairie High School, Merrimac Community Charter School, and the community pool.

Sauk Prairie School District referendum can be divided into three aspects; high school updates and renovations, Merrimac Community Charter School updates and renovations and, upgrades to the athletic facilities. The high school updates and renovations can be attributed to 82 percent of the referendum.

The Wisconsin Heights Alumni Association, Inc. is offering a challenge for classes of Wisconsin Heights for donations of funds to be used for scholarships for a graduating senior or seniors of Wisconsin Heights High School. The first scholarship was presented to a member of the graduating class of 2015.

Since November, the Sauk Prairie Middle School Forensics team has worked under the leadership of Julie Breunig and Kathy Bruno on presentations ranging from solo and group acting, demonstration speeches, and four-minute informative speeches to prose interpretation, reader’s theater and non-original oratory.  Some students wrote their own speeches a

Olivia Flanagan, a Sauk Prairie High School student, won financial support for college from the Herb Kohl Foundation. Winners were announced last Monday, and scholarships will be awarded later this spring. Amounts were not released, but local students will receive their awards at a May ceremony in Baraboo.

The Wisconsin Heights School Board has chosen Performance Services Inc. as the engineering firm for the next steps of the district’s facility planning process. The decision was voted on during the board’s Feb. 10 meeting, after hearing two presentations from the firms PSI and Bray Architects.

The Sauk Prairie School Board met on January 27. Middle school construction was discussed as asbestos was found while working on the air conditioning upgrade. The removal will take up an extensive amount of funding. The additional funding to finish the air conditioning project is coming from an early closing of a tax increment finance district.
