The wait was excruciating.
But now that they’re back, they have big plans.
Wisconsin Heights’ boys basketball got clearance in late-December to begin its season. And even though the Vanguards will have a truncated year, they fully expect to make some noise.
They’re baaacccckkkk — and boy are they happy about it.
The Wisconsin Heights School Board recently approved the return of winter sports, with all games to be played outside of Dane County. And the Vanguards got started last week by splitting their two games.
The lead, once as great as 16 points, was gone now.
Host Dodgeville had all the momentum. And Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team was on the ropes last Saturday.
Terrific defense.
Efficient offense.
And contributions from up and down the lineup.
Sauk Prairie’s girls basketball team is enjoying all of those and has strung together a five-game winning streak. The Eagles won all three of their games last week and improved to 6-1 on the season.

The Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights boys swimmers split a triple dual on Jan. 5.
The Eagles defeated Madison Edgewood, 94-74, but fell to Verona-Mount Horeb, 99-71.
Sauk Prairie’s co-op hockey team improved to 5-0 with a pair of wins last week.
The Eagles defeated Milton, 4-1, on Jan. 7 and toppled Tomah/Sparta, 5-2, on Jan. 9.
In Sauk Prairie’s win over Milton, Micah Hanson and Erik Peterson both had a pair of goals.
The WIAA Conference Realignment Task Force voted 16-1 to advance Conference football realignment plans (football only) for the 2022 and 2023 season to the WIAA Board of Control for a vote on March 5, 2021.
The Ithaca/Weston high school wrestling co-op is off to a strong start this season, winning four of the first six dual meets. There was stiff competition for the Ithaca/Weston wrestlers on Thursday night as I/W suffered its first two losses of the dual meet season while also recording one win as well.
After having seven consecutive games postponed or cancelled with players in quarantine amidst the COVID pandemic, the Weston boys basketball team returned to action on Monday night, hosting a make-up game with Cassville. The home team hung tough early but Cassville pulled away in the second half for a 63-37 victory.
The skaters for the Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells/Mauston faced their most difficult week of the season in terms of quality opposition this past week and it started on Tuesday with a lopsided loss on home ice, 8-2 against Madison Edgewood, the second loss of the season against the Crusaders.
