RV/B gymnasts earn All-American team, individual honors
The River Valley/ Barneveld gymnastics program has announced the 2020-21 qualifiers for All-American status as awarded by the National High School Gymnastics Association. The National High School Gymnastics Association sets high standards to qualify for All American status. As a team, the top four individual scores on each event are combined and must total 130 points or higher. The team must meet the requirements at least four times during the year, one of which must be in a championship competition. RV/B gymnasts met the requirements by surpassing this score during the season. In the history of RV gymnastics, this is the ninth RV team to have qualified as an All-American team. Members of this year’s All-American team are sophomores Morgan Bowell and McKenzie Kruse, and juniors Madison Krey, Katie Forseth, Emily Noble, Sofia Sanftleben and Lorisa Shatrawka. To obtain All-American status as an individual, gymnasts must reach the following marks five times during the season, two of which must be in a championship competition: vault 8.7, uneven bars 8.5, beam 8.5, floor 8.8, and all-around 8.4. This year, two individuals qualified for this prestigious honor. Shatrawka qualified for the third year for bars (8.77 average) and beam (8.92 average). Kruse qualified for the first time for vault (8.76 average). In addition, Sanftleben was awarded Honorable Mention status with a beam score average of 8.48. The NHSGA also awards varsity gymnasts for their academic success. Athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.75, earn a varsity letter, and compete in 3/4 of varsity meets. River Valley had four gymnasts receive Academic All-American status, Katie Forseth (11), Madison Krey (11), Emily Noble (11), Lorisa Shatrawka (11), and Caitlin Wastlick (9).
