Wisconsin’s state tree, the sugar maple wears a number of hats. In addition to providing sap to boil down to syrup or sugar, the tree feeds wildlife with the same liquid. Squirrels, birds and deer all seem to sense this, maybe by the rising sugar full moon.

The local UW-Extension office is organizing Zoom seminars to empower parents.

The Positive Parenting Program offers strategies and ideas to help those with children up through age 12.

Parents may attend one, some or all of the seminars, which are free.

Most birds have small bodies with large surface areas to body mass. Compared to a cow, a chickadee has a great deal of surface area where heat can be dissipated. That’s bad during winter and requires extra food to keep warm.

Sauk County Public Health reminds the public that it’s still important to be tested for COVID-19.

Testing is encouraged for anyone who believes they may have had contact with someone or think they have the virus.

Testing is free and available at the following locations. Registration is necessary.

Two women received the most votes in Sauk County for state superintendent of schools.

Jill Underly garnered the majority in Sauk County at 1,063 votes, while Deborah Kerr was next with 955.

The third highest vote-getter was Sheila Briggs with 700 votes, according to unofficial results from last Tuesday’s primary election.
