Eagles fall to Mount Horeb, part 2

Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team put together its first three-game winning streak of the season over the holidays. The Eagles rolled past host Dodgeville, 63-52, on Dec. 17 and won at Janesville Parker, 67-53, on Dec. 28. Sauk Prairie then cruised past Portage, 77-37, on Jan. 3.

Heights girls moving on up

Tyler Fuchs is in his third season coaching Wisconsin Height’s girls basketball team. In his first two seasons, the Vanguards won four games a year. So when Heights captured a pair of games last week and bumped their win total to five, everyone in the program was naturally thrilled.

Wisconsin Heights’ boys basketball team dropped three of four games over the holiday break and fell to 2-6 overall. The Vanguards have yet to play a Capitol South Conference game. Here’s a recap of Heights’ four games over the break.

Wrestlers 11th at Eau Claire Invite

The Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights’ boys wrestling team finished in 11th place at the Eau Claire Holiday duals on Dec. 28. The Eagles went 1-2 in its four-team pool play. That sent Sauk-Heights into the 9th-to-12th place bracket, where they split a pair of matches and finished 11th overall. Here’s a recap of the Eagles’ performance:

Hockey Eagles fall to Oregon

The Sauk Prairie co-op boys hockey team fell to Oregon, 6-2, on Jan. 3.  The Eagles, who have players from Mount Horeb, Barneveld, River Valley and Wisconsin Heights, fell to 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the Badger Conference.

Sauk Prairie’s girls basketball team dropped two of three games over the holiday break. Here’s a recap of the Eagles’ games: • Madison Edgewood 55, Sauk Prairie 33 — The Crusaders are the defending WIAA Division 2 state champions and ranked No. 2 in the state again this year.

Eagles’ swimmers third at Verona

The Sauk Prairie-Wisconsin Heights boys swimming team finished in third place at the 10-team Verona Invite on Jan. 28. Verona won the meet with 561.5 points, while McFarland (405), Sauk-Heights (264), Waunakee (258) and DeForest (232) rounded out the top five.

Beavers lose tight one at Baraboo in boys hoops action

Reedsburg Beaver Boys Basketball certainly had some momentum going into last Friday’s encounter with arch-rival Baraboo. The Beavers improved to 4-2 for the season with wins over Bangor and Wisconsin Rapids the previous week and they did it without injured starters Alek Southworth, the team’s leading scorer, and post player Luke Verch.

Overtime loss to Aquinas extends losing skid for RWD skaters


RWD played well but lost a 3-2 OT decision against the Aquinas co-op in high school boys hockey action this past week in Onalaska. (RWD Hockey photo)

The first game of the new year was an exciting one for the RWD Miners boys hockey co-op but the end result was not so satisfying, a 3-2 overtime loss on the road against the Aquinas/Holmen Avalanche in Onalaska.
