As we have all learned to live in this new world of social distancing and isolating ourselves, many of us are experiencing what is a harsh reality for so many older people: Loneliness. It doesn’t feel good and it’s bad for our health.

Hang on! The light will come back. It will be slow, but it will be steady. There is more darkness ahead, but a little less than what lies behind us. The Winter Solstice has been a time of celebration for people since the dawn of time.

Changes in roadside garbage over time give us clues to societal trends. No one has a better opportunity to observe those changes than people who run or walk for exercise.

I was a runner for about 40 years, then had to give it up for health reasons and became a walker. Now in my seventies, I walk about three miles a day.

This is a quick shout-out of thanks and applause to the people of Sunset Drive, who with their display of lights have helped bring light and happiness into the gloom of this year.

Your display was beautiful; it was more than worth the short drive to go and see it.

Where has the year gone? On one hand it has flown by. On another it has felt slower than ever. It has also felt somewhat like the movie “Groundhog Day,” reliving the same thing over and over like it is on repeat. I think most will agree that we are more than ready to welcome 2021!

Have yourself a merry little COVID Christmas! Can I use the words "merry" and "COVID" in the same sentence? Can they coexist? Well, for this year at least, they are going to have to. We often hear the expression, "Keep Christ in Christmas!" This year we have to add, "Keep the COVID in Christmas!"
