State announces current round of internet expansion grants; big carriers get little to nothing

Local telecommunications companies, utilities and cooperatives were the big winners in the most recent $100-million-grant round of public funding for the expansion in Wisconsin of high-speed internet, also known as broadband.

National and statewide companies like Frontier, Charter, TDS and AT&T mostly saw their requests denied.

Remember to add 1 and area code when making calls

Wisconsin residents should take note: You’ll need to start using full area codes when making calls, even local ones.

Starting Oct. 24, callers will need to dial 1 plus the area code.

If you don’t, you may get a message that your call can’t be completed as dialed.

Lakeside Foods purchases sausage company

A manufacturer with a location in Reedsburg has added another business to its roster.

Lakeside Foods announced it will purchase Cher-Make Sausage Co. based out of Manitowoc. Cher-Make, which is 93 years old, produces sausage, hot dogs, ring bologna and bratwurst.
