Golfers begin new season with two invites

The River Valley High School golf team returned to competition over the weekend after not having season in 2020. This year the roster includes 23 boys and one girl. The season opened with the Reedsburg Invitational on Friday with River Valley finishing seventh of 11 teams.

Softball season starts with a scrimmage

RV grad Seth Liegel takes national title

Shane Liegel, a 2019 River Valley High School graduate, earned national champion honors at the 2021 NWCA Division III Nationals. Liegel was named an NWCA All-American in the tournament. For the 2020-2021 wrestling season Liegel wrestled in the 184 pound weight class and compiled a record 14 – 1, including six falls.

Heights football remains perfect

Trevor Steiner is a perfectionist. Wisconsin Heights’ football coach has the No. 1 team in the state in 8-man football. The Vanguards opened the year with a pair of impressive wins. Yet Steiner kept pushing and pushing. “I’ve been pushing the kids to execute better for the past couple weeks,” he said. All of that pushing has certainly paid off.

Next stop: Wright State

Sauk Prairie junior Aida Shadewald recently gave a verbal commitment to play collegiately at Wright State. Shadewald was named first-team all-state in Division 1 by the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association last fall.

Soccer Vanguards have won 3 straight

A lot has changed with the alternate soccer season, but the Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld boys soccer team is picking up where it left off back in 2019.   The Vanguards are currently on a three-game winning streak and 3-1-1 overall, which puts them in second place in the Capitol Conference behind Sugar River.

Herrling wins Jefferson Invite

Samantha Herrling is rounding into form. And that’s bad news for cross country runners across the state. Herrling, a sophomore at Wisconsin Heights, won the Jefferson Invite on Saturday. The event included five teams and 38 runners and Herrling topped them all.
