Nominations open for educator awards

The Herb Kohl Foundation invites the public to nominate their favorite teachers and principals for recognition.
Nominations are open for public school educators in pre-Kindergarten through 12th Grade. Visit www.kohleducation.org to make a nomination for the 2022 Herb Kohl Education Foundation Teacher Fellowship and Principal Leadership Awards. The deadline is 5 p.m. Oct. 12.
Winners will receive $6,000, with an additional $6,000 going to the school of each selected teacher and principal.
Parents, students, other teachers, residents or school administrators may make a nomination. To qualify, nominees must plan to remain in their current role for at least one year.
Awards recognize educators who have inspired a love of learning, motivated others and provided service in and outside the classroom. Principals are acknowledged for leadership ability and positive influence.
Winners will be chosen by a panel of state-level representatives including those from the Wisconsin Newspaper Association and Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, as well as cooperative educational service agencies, education-related associations and the community.
Every year, the program presents 100 fellowships and 16 principal awards. Since the program began in 1990, it has given more than 3,000 awards and matching grants totaling nearly $13.4 million.
Program co-sponsors include the Wisconsin Newspaper Association, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Association of Wisconsin School Administrators and the state’s 12 cooperative educational service agencies (CESAs).
Herb Kohl is a former politician, philanthropist and businessman from Milwaukee. His foundation not only recognizes educators but also provides scholarships to students in Wisconsin.
