Reedsburg students excel at state FFA Convention
Several members of Reedsburg FFA did well at the Wisconsin FFA Convention in July.
During the convention, students participated in leadership workshops, convention sessions, a career fair and competitions.
Sophia Larson placed fifth among the top 10 Wisconsin Farmer finalists in the Wisconsin Star Program. This program is the highest honor given to an FFA member at the state level. Larson earned her award through work in a supervised agricultural experience program, which involves ownership and work with dairy cattle and sheep.
Larson also earned a gold ranking in the diversified livestock production entrepreneurship area. These are among the top honors an FFA member can receive when working with supervised agricultural experiences.
In addition, Larson won the 2021 Three Star Leader Award for her dedication to the Reedsburg FFA Chapter. Winners are chosen based on their activity with FFA chapters.
Henry Larson was one of 10 state finalists in the FFA Discussion Meet Contest. He made it to the final round of the contest, which tests FFA member’s abilities to cooperatively discuss agriculture issues, exchange ideas and brainstorm solutions. Each participant gives a 30-second opening statement, participates in a 15-minute discussion and then finishes with a one-minute closing statement.
The Reedsburg FFA Chapter itself earned a gold ranking from the National Chapter Award Program and will advance to the national competition. This program recognizes chapters for overall activities, with special focus on leadership development, community building and agriculture strengthening.
