Weston children learn about groundhogs

Kathy Housner, a paraprofessional at Weston schools, brought her Jimmy the Groundhog puppet to celebrate Groundhog Day this month. She has been sharing her groundhog with pre-K classes at Weston for 14 years. The tradition began when Housner lived in Sun Prairie and would go see the original Jimmy the Groundhog every year. While employed with the Sun Prairie School District, a teacher friend gave her this puppet, and she has been sharing him with pre-K students ever since. Housner takes this opportunity to share info about the groundhog's habitat and food and answers questions. The kids decide if the groundhog will see his shadow and predict an early spring.
