Obituary: Carla Kay Fish
Carla Kay Fish, 70, of Loganville, WI passed away at her home on November 26, 2020. A long-time Loganville area resident, Karla (she preferred to spell her name with a K) moved from Reedsburg to Loganville at the age of four when her family resided on a farm owned by the Roeckers, just Southwest of Loganville. She attended the Friendship School. When the family moved to another farm Northwest of Loganville owned by LaVern Hasse, she attended the Allen School, Lime Ridge School and Weston High School from which she graduated in 1968.
A music lover, Karla was a big Beatles and Elvis fan. She learned to play the guitar at Kathy’s Music Shop in Reedsburg and taught guitar there for several years. Karla enjoyed working in the outdoors and credited her skills in carpentry to learning from her Uncle Cliff Fish who happily shared what he knew.
Karla worked alongside her brothers Mark and Gary as a team member in the family business, Arthur L. Fish & Sons, a drain tile business. She stayed at it and carried on the business after her father passed in 1980. She eventually retired from the drain tile business. She worked as a crew member, along with her son, Garth, during the construction of the Trappers Run Golf Course in Wisconsin Dells. Ultimately she settled on utilizing her construction skills and accomplished numerous roofing, remodeling and repair projects throughout Sauk County.
Karla was also known for her uncanny ability to remember every joke ever told to her. Plus, she could recount those jokes with such a theatrical flair that you thought you were listening to a real comedian. She often had groups of people, at home or at a bar, around the table laughing so hard that they had tears in their eyes.
An avid card player, Karla honed her skills playing Pinochle and Euchre during the long winter months growing up. As part of a large family there were always plenty of participants and competition was very fierce. You knew you were good when you could be dad’s partner and Karla was one of the fastest in the family to gain that honor. She played Sheepshead regularly at the Hillpoint Rod and Gun Club for many years.
Karla was always ready to help anyone who had a need. She gave sage advice, rolled up her sleeves and pitched in on many projects, and would get into her car and pickup someone who needed transportation no matter what time it was. She also took many into her home and had them stay with her while they took the time necessary to be able to strike out on their own again.
Karla is survived by her son, Garth (Beth) Fish with their three children (Shelbi, Savannah, Sierra) of Brown Deer, WI; brother, Robert Fish, Baraboo, WI and sisters, Barbara Schneider, Columbus, WI; Dona Swanson, Waupun, WI; Mary Ellen (John) Voltz, Reedsburg, WI; Vicki (Ken) Martinson, Oregon, WI and Sherri (Scott) Handley, Edmonds, WA and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was in preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Gaby (Wohling) Fish and her siblings, Leah Schweppe, Arthur Fish, Jr., Franklin Fish, Lewis Fish, Patricia Weldy, Gary Fish, Mark Fish and Garth Fish.
A funeral service for Carla will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 4, 2020 at the Greenwood Chapel in Reedsburg with Chaplain Mike Amberg officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 3, 2020 from 3:00-6:00 P.M. at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg, and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the chapel.
