John A. Dischler John A. Dischler, age 78, of Plain, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at St. Mary’s hospital. John was a builder, of family, of community, and of more. Married 57 years to his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Ring, whom John referred to as his “beautiful wife,” he enjoyed driving her around town in his red and white ’59 Ford Fairlane convertible, watching Brewer’s games and spending time with family telling jokes and stories of their shared life. Dedicated to his community, John was a project superintendent at Kraemer Brothers, working 46 years leading the construction of projects big and small, playing practical jokes on clients and crew, building teams through joyful experiences and a strong work ethic. He received the American Red Cross Hero of a Lifetime Award for his decades of service with the Plain Emergency Medical Services (EMS.) Also volunteering as a Plain firefighter and served several terms as trustee of the Plain Village Board, those around town referring to him as “Big John” or “JD.” An avid fisherman, a highlight of each year was an annual fishing trip to Canada with his son, grandson and friends. He also enjoyed hunting each fall at his Uncle Johnny’s farm with family and friends. A devoted Jeep owner, over the years, family photos of his past vehicles could serve as a yearbook for the company. Tough, but at times quiet, he would bust up a room with his quick wit that took you by surprise while at the same time having a strength and fortitude you know you could count on. His soft spots were his daughter and his grandchildren, melting his heart and widening his smile just by being in the room. He was the foundation for his family, a loving and dependable husband and father who will be missed by his wife, Charlotte; children, Stephanie (Bruce) Pannkuk and Steve (Pat) Dischler; a devoted grandfather to Ben (Dana) Schwarz, Carley Reisen, Joe Temeyer (Anne), Rachel Pinder and Amanda Dischler. Beloved great-grandchildren will carry his memory in their smiles, Jasper and Little “Big John” Schwarz, and Will, Lydia and James Temeyer. John was big brother to Pat (Sheila) Dischler and Joanne Dischler and beloved son of Mary (Bindl) and Anthony “Pat” Dischler (deceased). The family would like to thank the kind and compassionate care during his stay at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church with burial in the St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery in Plain. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of John’s service and love of his community can be sent to the Plain EMS or St. Anne’s Chapel in Plain.
