Louis L. Holmquist
Louis L. Holmquist, 84, of Watertown, WI, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown, with Rev. Ray Bezanson officiating. Family and friends may gather at Hafemeister Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Louis Leonard Holmquist was born on November 1, 1939 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Edgar and Esther (Cook) Holmquist. As a high school student Lou excelled on the basketball team, holding the high school record for scoring the most points in a single game for many years. After high school, Lou served his country in the United States Army. After completing his military service, Lou worked on the ore boats on the Great Lakes for five and a half years. He then moved back to Detroit Lakes, MN where he met Jackolyn “Jackie” Ann Harry. They were married on August 8, 1970 in Detroit Lakes, MN. Lou and Jackie spent time in Montana, Texas, and other states before settling in Prairie du Sac, WI where they raised their family. Lou obtained his degree as a Registered Nurse, and worked at the VA Hospital in Madison, WI for many years until retirement.
Lou enjoyed all sports, especially watching the Milwaukee Brewers and Milwaukee Bucks. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren, Louis and Margot at their sporting events and performing arts. As a child Lou spent time playing sports, riding cows, catching fish, and hunting.
Lou is survived by his children, Casey (Terese) Holmquist of Avon, Colorado; Melissa (Michael) DeNomie of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; his grandchildren Louis and Margot DeNomie; and Allen Britten of Middleton, Wisconsin whom he loved like a son. Lou is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Lou was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Jackie on June 23, 2021.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Robyn Rice for all of the care and friendship she provided Lou over the past two and a half years.
