Richard Thomas “Dick” Saeman

Cross Plains/Mazomanie--Richard Thomas “Dick” Saeman passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from complications after heart surgery. Dick was born on Aug. 17, 1950, to Robert G. and R. Anita (Conlin) Saeman. He attended St. Francis Xavier Grade School and graduated from Middleton High School in 1968. In 1970 he earned an associate degree in architecture from Madison Area Technical College. On Sept. 11, 1971, he married the love of his life, Peggy Ellen Getz, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Cross Plains where they were lifelong members. A large part of Dick’s life was spent as part owner of Saeman Lumber where he enjoyed working with all the customers. He would spend his nights and weekends drawing house plans for new houses and additions. He took great pride in making sure that a house would be functional and had curb appeal when done. He retired from Timber Roots UBC as a truss designer. Dick was a man who enjoyed serving others, he served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard 1970-1987, District 1 EMS, Cross Plains Fire Department, Cross Plains Businessmen’s Association, St. Francis Xavier Church Council, and most recently Black Earth American Legion Post No. 313. After retirement Dick and Peggy were always on the go. They traveled around the United States and to other countries with the Prime Time Club where they made many new friends and reconnected with old ones, but they always found time to make it to their grandchildren’s concerts, sporting events and performances. Dick was a master wood worker, carpenter and general handy man, he spent endless hours tinkering in his shop making Christmas presents for his kids and grandkids and was always willing to help with any building project. Later in life he found his second love a 1967 Chevy Corvette that he and Peggy enjoyed taking to car shows. He won many trophies because of his attention to detail. He would spend all week cleaning and polishing the car and everything had to be displayed just right at the show. Dick is survived by his wife, Peggy; sons, Chad (Kimberly) Saeman and Fred (Stacy) Saeman; grandchildren, Ciera (Josh) Sealander, Kylie Saeman, Katelyn Saeman and Violet Saeman; great-grandson, Marvin Sealander and baby Sealander on the way; brothers, Robert F. Saeman and Raymond (Barbara) Saeman; sister, Rita Librera; brother-in-law, Jim (Barb) Getz; and nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Garnet and Mary Getz; son, Bradford Saeman; and brother-in-law, Gary Getz.
