Heights spikers earn No. 2 seed

Wisconsin Heights’ girls volleyball team received the No. 2 seed in its WIAA Division 3 sectional and will host Cambridge in a regional quarterfinal on Oct. 22. Brodhead received the top seed in the sectional.

Heights boys XC team 7th at Riverdale Invitational

The Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld boys cross country team finished in seventh place at the 17-team Riverdale Invite last Saturday. Vanguards senior Christian Patzka won the race in 15 minutes, 55.9 seconds. Boscobel won the boys race with 76 points to easily outdistance runner-up River Valley (127). The Vanguards were seventh with 188 points.

Mack earns trip to state

Sauk Prairie sophomore Quinlyn Mack is headed to the WIAA Division 1 girls state tennis tournament. Mack (13-8) will play Westosha Central sophomore Tristin Jantz in a first round match Thursday at 10:30 a.m. If Mack wins there, she’ll play a second round match Thursday at 4 p.m. Mack was the Eagles’ only player to qualify for state.

Sauk Prairie’s cross country teams made the trek to the site of the annual state meet to battle a highly competitive field at the annual Wisconsin Rapids Invitational at the Ridges Golf Course last Saturday.

Sauk Prairie gets defensive

A smash-mouth defense. A freight train offense. An all-around quality performance. It didn’t matter what the flavor was, Sauk Prairie’s football team was dishing it up last Friday. The Eagles played arguably their best game of the season and snapped a three-game losing skid, defeating host Portage, 19-0, in a Badger North Conference game.

Heights falls to Newman Catholic

There are weeks you can gameplan, scheme and study film until you can’t keep your eyes open — and it might just not matter. The guy lining up across from you is just flat out better. Wisconsin Heights’ football team had a week like that, falling to mighty Newman Catholic, 48-20 last Friday.

Heights spikers shine at Lodi Invite

This is how championship matches should be. Tight. Loud. Dramatic. The battle between Wisconsin Heights’ girls volleyball team and McFarland for the title at the Lodi Invite Saturday had all of the above. And even though the Spartans prevailed, 28-26, 25-27, 17-15, the Vanguards knew there was no shame in second on this day.

Soccer Vanguards stun Lodi

When Lodi came to Wisconsin Heights on Tuesday, it was undefeated in conference play. The L-Cats didn’t leave that way. Heights/Barneveld stunned Lodi by building a 4-0 halftime lead and rolling to an impressive 4-1 win. The Vanguards moved into a second-place tie in the Capitol Conference behind league-leading Sugar River.
