Eagles’ boys defend title

DEFOREST – It was a beautiful day for a run on the Don Batty Cross Country Course at the Windsor Sports Complex last Saturday morning. With temperatures in the mid 50’s and partly sunny skies, the Sauk Prairie boys’ couldn’t have chosen a better day to defend their Badger North Conference title.

Eagles’ soccer team wins league

When the going gets tough, as the adage goes, the tough get going. Senior forward and co-captain Evan Carlson capped a perfect week for Sauk Prairie with a pair of game-winning goals as the Eagles won the outright Badger North Conference boys’ soccer championship.

Two Vanguards win XC titles

Christian Patzka and Samantha Herrling are conference champions. The rest of their teams performed like champs, as well. At the Southern Capitol Conference cross country meet held last Saturday, Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld had a bevy of memorable performances.

The postseason is here. And to say the boys soccer team from Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld has high hopes would be a massive understatement. “We are positioned for a run at state,” Vanguards’ coach Bartlett Holmes said.

Mack reaches state meet

Sauk Prairie sophomore Quinlyn Mack reached the WIAA Division 1 state meet last weekend. Mack won her opening match over Tristin Jantz of Westosha Central, 6-1, 6-1. Mack lost in the second round, though, to Haya Donin of Eau Claire Memorial, 6-2, 6-3.

How do you top your best defensive game of the season, one in which you dominated the opposing team? You do one better, of course. That was the story for Sauk Prairie’s football team last Friday, as they took care of visiting Mount Horeb-Barneveld, 28-0, in a Badger North Conference game on Senior Night.

Back on track

They didn’t hang their heads and feel sorry for themselves. They didn’t let one loss bleed into the following week and cause a second setback. No, Wisconsin Heights’ football team rebounded in a big way last Friday. One week after a tough loss to Newman Catholic, the Vanguards bounced back with a 60-20 win over Rockford Christian Life.

Eagles’ soccer team seeded 4th

Sauk Prairie boys’ soccer coach Drew Kornish was hopeful when he attended a seeding meeting for WIAA Division 2 postseason play on Sunday. But the Eagles received a No. 4 seed and will host No. 13 seeded Westosha Central when regional competition begins on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
