He worked at the GM Car factory in Janesville and then began working in road construction in Madison.  This led he to work with brick layers in downtown Madison for several years where they worked on many high-rise buildings.
Whitey moved back to the area and continued working construction for a general contractor and concrete work, much of their work was around Lake Redstone.  While doing this he continued working at the feed mill part time.
Starting in 1991, he became a rural mail carrier around La Valle.  At the same time, he also began digging graves in the La Valle and Ironton area.
Whitey always enjoyed sports, while in the Marines, he learned how to become a fast pitch softball pitcher.  He pitched a lot of softball and struck out many opposing batters.  Later he umped many slow pitch softball games in La Valle.  Bowling also played a large part in Whitey’s life, along with pitching horseshoes and he was an avid deer hunter.  He was a member of the La Valle American Legion for over 45 years.
