David “Gus” Gibeaut

David “Gus” Gibeaut, age 72, of LaValle, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.  He was born on August 28, 1953, in Reedsburg, the son of Orville and Angeline (LaRue) Gibeaut.  

Gus was a 1971 graduate of Webb High School in Reedsburg.  He attended MATC in Madison the following year.  Gus was employed as a bookkeeper in the agriculture industry with Ben Paddock and Associates and Charlie Pattridge.  He was later employed with the School District of Reedsburg as the high school custodian, retiring after 34 years. Gus was a bartender in LaValle on weekends throughout the years.

He served on the LaValle Fire Department and the LaValle Commercial Club.  Gus was a people person; he enjoyed socializing and catching up with others and loved a good Friday fish fry.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael (Carol) Gibeaut; brother-in-law, Don Brandt; niece, Katie Brandt; nephew, Matthew Horkan along with several aunts and uncles.

Gus is survived by his children, Angie (Chuck) Setter and Mark Gibeaut; sisters, Patricia Brandt, Joan (Dennis) Mortimer and Mary (Tim) Horkan; former wife, Sheila Gibeaut; aunt, Gloria (Lyle) Loeding; several nieces, nephews, cousins along with other relatives and friends.

Thank you to the staff of the Sauk County Health Care Center for the wonderful care given to Gus during the past five years.

A celebration of life for Gus Gibeaut will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Club 33, E4889 State Road 33, Reedsburg, from 12 noon until 3:00 pm. A private family burial will take place at a late date in Oak Lawn Cemetery, LaValle.
