Obituary: Leonard P. “Petey” Peterson

Leonard P. “Petey” Peterson, age 67, of Wonewoc, formerly of Cazenovia, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 7, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital, Hillsboro. He was born on April 27, 1957, in Reedsburg, the son of Everett and Louise (Hanko) Peterson.

Petey was a 1975 graduate of Weston High School. He attended occupational training while serving his country in the US Army National Guard Troop E 105 th Calvary. He was employed for 38 years with Gerber in Reedsburg. On November 12, 1984, Petey was united in marriage to Roberta E. Mathews. A union that remained strong for over 40 years.

Petey was on a pool and softball team in his younger years. He enjoyed spending time with his animals as well as hunting, fishing and camping and loved sharing these experiences with his children and grandchildren through the years.

He was preceded in death by His parents; three brothers; one brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law.

Petey is survived by his wife, Roberta; stepson, Corry (Abena) Mathews; children, Angela Fry (Brad Brandt), Rachael Nottestad, Natasha Peterson; grandchildren: Ryan Kohler, Sean and Maddox Mathews, Nicolas (Marina) Fry, Jaden Fry (Hunter Lopez), Ashton Peterson, Gracie Nottestad, Havanna Peterson, Adella Nottestad and Triston Birdsill; siblings, Mary Ann Spencer, Sally (Gary) Hatfield, Jeanette (Bob) McCarthy, Linda (Wayne) Osborne, Robert Peterson, Joseph Peterson, Conrad (Teresa) Peterson; sister-in-law, Jeannie Peterson; several nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends.

A memorial service for Petey Peterson will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg, with Chaplain Daniel Farber officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 24 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Oak Lawn Cemetery, LaValle at a later date.
