Obituary: Elisabeth "Liz" O. DeBaets
Elisabeth "Liz" O. DeBaets, age 85, of Oregon, Ohio, went to meet her Lord and Savior Wednesday, November 20, 2024, in the loving care of Genoa Retirement Village. Liz was born on November 26, 1938, to Cecil and Olga (Pasch) Cook in Mauston, WI.
Liz graduated from Mauston High School in 1956 and not long after met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) DeBaets. They were united in marriage on May 4, 1957 and were blessed with 2 children, Debora (John) Beyerl and Dean DeBaets. Liz and Bob celebrated over 55 years together.
Liz worked at Sears for 25+ years in various roles until her retirement. She spent many happy retirement years traveling around the United States and Canada with Bob, as well as making numerous trips to Wisconsin visiting family and friends. Liz enjoyed country music, dancing, watching football, spending time with her grandchildren, and would often volunteer at the local annual German American Festival with Bob.
Liz had an infectious smile and was a woman of great faith in her Lord. She had a passion for her vegetable garden, beautiful flower baskets, cooking, canning, and baking. She made the best pumpkin & banana breads and would often have a loaf of each in the freezer.
Liz will be lovingly remembered by her son Dean DeBaets, Oregon, OH; son-in-law John Beyerl, Medford, WI; her seven grandchildren, Nicole (Dan Moore) DeBaets, Oregon, OH, Josh DeBaets, Elmore, OH, Jennifer (Nathan) Thums, Wausau, WI, Julie Beyerl, Stevens Point, WI, John (Nese) Beyerl, Madison, WI, Jared (Melanie) Beyerl, Peosta, IA, James (Kaitlyn) Beyerl, Dane, WI; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, John Cook, Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Paul (Barb) Cook, Arkdale, WI. She is also survived by many friends in Ohio and Wisconsin, in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert DeBaets; her daughter Debora Beyerl; her parents, Cecil and Olga Cook; and four brothers Cecil Cook Jr., George (Elizabeth) Cook, Martin(Eldora) Cook & David(Dorothy) Cook.
A Christian Burial service will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 11:00 A.M at St John Lutheran Church in Reedsburg, WI with Pastor Kris Totzke officiating. There will be a visitation at 9 A.M until the time of service at Church on Tuesday. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Reedsburg, WI.
