Lois Jean (Raisbeck) Herrling

Black Earth--Lois Jean (Raisbeck) Herrling, age 82, of Black Earth, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.  Lois was born on July 13, 1941, in Mount Vernon, Wis., to Kenneth and Edith (Overland) Raisbeck. She married James Herrling Sr., on Aug. 10, 1957. Together they raised three children, Sheila (Cam) Buss of Verona, Jim Jr. (Christi) of Black Earth, and Jerry (Amy) of Mazomanie.  Lois was employed at Springs Window Fashions, formerly Grabers of Middleton, for several years and later at UW Hospitals and the Physical Plant in Madison as a housekeeper and janitor for almost 23 years. She often spoke with kindness of all the caring people she came in contact with and enjoyed her work very much.  Lois loved puzzles, sports on television, card games with the kids as well as school sports and events. “Grandma” was her favorite word. She loved the Overland Family Reunions every year. “I’ll bring the coffee!” She was an active member of New Heights Lutheran Church and volunteered when she could. Her family was very important to her as were her church family and neighbors.  Lois is survived by her three children and their spouses; her seven grandchildren, Annie Okane, Steven Buss, Christopher, Dylan and Preston Herrling, and Hannah and Connor Herrling; her seven great-grandchildren, Hailey and Anthony Sao and Jameson, Jaylen, Jennifer and Jordan Herrling (grandma’s handsome little man), and most recently, a new great-grandson, Joey Okane. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Raisbeck of Madison; sisters, Arlene Christanson of Mazomanie, Beverly Jeremiason of Madison, June Lipke of Stoughton, Linda (Terry) Busse of Madison, and Cindy Norman of Madison, and their families; and other relatives and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jim; her parents; grandparents; brothers, Jerry, Eldon, Ever, and Edward; brother-in-law, Don Christianson; and other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at NEW HEIGHTS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 314 Anne St., Mazomanie, at noon on Saturday, April 13, 2024, with Pastor Rob Nelson presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. The family would like to thank Pastor Rob, Auna and family, the staff of New Heights Lutheran Church, Dr. Janell Hupp and W.H. Clinic staff, Cross Plains Pharmacy staff, and Gunderson Camacho Black Earth Funeral and Cremation Care.  Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
