Obituary: Harlan William Meyer

Harlan William Meyer, age 87, of Reedsburg, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at the Sauk County Health Care Center. He was born on March 18, 1936, in Reedsburg, WI, the son of Herbert and Alice (Schroeder) Meyer. Harley was a 1954 graduate of Reedsburg High School. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1955 to 1958.
On December 17, 1971, Harley was united in marriage to Joan R. Cockroft. They enjoyed 52 years together. Harley was employed as a truck driver for Grede Foundry and Skinner Transfer for a combination of 50 years. He also owned and operated Meyer’s Strawberry Farm for several years.
Harley was a lifelong bowler, achieving a 300 game at age 69. He was a member of the Reedsburg Country Club serving as President for four years, and a member of the Lions Club. He was an avid golfer but his greatest passion was fishing. He enjoyed many fishing excursions both locally and in Mercer and the Flambeau Flowage to name a couple.
Harley is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Deb (Frank) Duren, David (Bette) Cockroft, Diane Cockroft; grandchildren, Matthew Zastrow, Kelli (Garrett) Graber, Justin Zastrow, Scott Cockroft, Brandon Cockroft (Katie), Taylor Cockroft; great-grandchildren, Emma Zastrow, Elsa and Ben Graber, Colton, Asher and Mia Cockroft; along with many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Leslie; sister, Jalaine Cashman; and half-brothers, Martin and Ernie Meyer.
Funeral services for Harley Meyer were conducted at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the Farber Funeral Home with Pastor Don Glanzer officiating. Burial with Military Honors followed in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Reedsburg. Visitation was held on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
