Obituary: Anita Vosen
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Anita Marie (Kraemer) Vosen, age 88, of Scottsboro, AL. She passed away peacefully at the Highlands Health and Rehab on November 24, 2023. Anita was the only daughter born to Benedict & Elsie Kraemer on November 9, 1935 in Cazenovia, WI. She grew up on the farm with her parents & 5 brothers. She was just 15 when she met the man of her dreams, Robert Vosen, at a local dance. Following high school graduation and Bob’s service in the Korean conflict, she became his bride on June 2, 1956. Anita & Bob had a true life partnership as we can’t talk about one without mentioning them both. Their family grew by 7 children during their 20 years in La Farge, WI. Along with raising the family, Anita was a bookkeeper for the Chevy garage and was the customer service contact for the Robert P. Vosen Insurance Agency. They immersed themselves in community and church participation wherever they landed.
In 1978, with 3 children in college in Wisconsin, Neet & Bob decided on a new adventure and moved with their 4 younger children to Vinegar Bend, AL to manage a 600 head cattle ranch. Soon after, they purchased a ranch in Louin, MS raising beef cattle and hogs. Anita & Bob bought “Vosen’s Country Store” in Louin that served the community for many years. It was a true, old fashioned country store with two gas pumps out front. Neet was known for the best fried chicken and potato logs in the county. She served hand dipped ice cream cones, sold groceries, “penny candy” by the pound, clothing, salt blocks for cattle, and just about anything a person would need.
After their youngest son graduated high school in Louin, they moved to Canton, MS (one of their favorite homes) where she was a teller for Trustmark Bank. After Neet retired, Bob continued his sales career which afforded them the opportunity to travel the country from Alaska to Maine contacting clients and visiting family and friends. In 2013, they moved to Scottsboro, AL to be closer to family. Anita lived to serve her family and her faith, a Rosary always in her pocket. She was a letter writer and journaler. She taught their kids to sew and cook, to play piano, and to waterski. Anita loved singing and was a regular cantor at Mass in Canton, MS. She made sure all 7 children had multiple photo albums chronicling their life from birth. She was so proud of her family and never missed a game, recital, or concert. She was an excellent cook and there is still a flurry of emails if anyone misplaces one of her recipes. Her exceptional poker face made her the best Euchre player in the family. Bob and Neet loved to dance, especially when her brother, Ray was sitting at the piano, playing their favorite songs in person.
Anita is survived by her children: Lynne (Wayne) Clark, Poynette, WI; Lisa (Bernie) Jernander, Reedsburg, WI; Laura Harrison (Randy Lewis) of Brooksville, MS; Thomas (Robin) Vosen, Pensacola, FL; William (Lisa) Vosen, Fairhope, AL; daughter-in-law Michelle Vosen of Rochester, MN. She will be missed by her 16 grandchildren: Sean, Chelsea, Aaron, Josef, Katherine, Carly, Benjamin, Zackary, Bobbye, Kelsey, Alex, Kyle, Avery, Ashlyn, Megan, and Jack and their spouses; along with her 15 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother Ray Kraemer (Richard Olson), Wausau, WI; sisters-in-law, Edna Kraemer, Hartland, WI; Carol Kraemer, Wausau, WI; Mary Margaret "Maggie" Volk, Reedsburg, WI; and Dorothea Vosen Hewitt, Oldsmar, FL; many nieces, nephews, and friends across the country.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Robert Vosen; her sons, Dennis Vosen, Geoffrey Vosen; parents, Ben & Elsie Kraemer; in-laws Peter & Katherine Vosen; brothers & sisters-in-law, Ralph & Sally Kraemer, Paul & Elizabeth Kraemer, Delbert Kraemer, Donald Kraemer, Mary Kraemer; Frank Volk; Raymond Vosen, Linus Vosen; son-in-law, Rick Harrison; nephews, David Vosen & Ed Kraemer.
The family would like to thank mom’s friends at the Jackson County AL Senior Center for their love and friendship over the years. We would especially like to thank our Megan Vosen and all the “angels” at Highlands Health and Rehab along with New Beacon Hospice for their tender care of our most beloved mother & grandmother.
