Sauk Prairie High School welcomes visiting language and culture teacher from Taiwan

Lo Yu-Ting, a visiting teacher from Taiwan, will be teaching at Sauk Prairie High School in 2023-2024 as part of the Teachers of Critical Languages Program within the US State Department.  The Sauk Prairie School District was selected through a competitive application process. The Teachers of Critical Languages Program (TCLP) is designed to increase and strengthen the study and acquisition of Mandarin Chinese and Arabic language in U.S. schools. Selected U.S. school districts host a teacher from China, Taiwan, Egypt, or Morocco to teach Mandarin Chinese or Arabic for one academic year. TCLP also provides exchange teachers the opportunity to learn about U.S. teaching methodologies, culture, and society.  Ms. Lo is an English teacher in Taiwan and will teach Mandarin in Sauk Prairie.  She is fluent in four languages.   Asked about her arrival, Ms. Lo shared, “I am embracing Sauk Prairie’s community, warmth, and diversity as a cultural exchange teacher – where teaching transcends borders and each day is an awesome global adventure.” TCLP is both a language and cultural program.  As such, Ms. Lo will spend half her day teaching high school students and the remainder of her day in outreach and education in the rest of the district and community.   TCLP is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and is implemented by American Councils for International Education.   “This is exciting for all of our students,” commented Superintendent Jeff Wright.  “I thank our teammates who navigated the application and interview process to secure this unique opportunity for Sauk Prairie and am proud to welcome Ms. Lo to Wisconsin.”
