Obituaries

Jerry R. Durst Jerry R. Durst, age 104, of Keyesville, passed away peacefully Friday, August 18, 2023, at the Richland Hospital.  He was born on February 14, 1919, the son of Adam and Lauretta (Dederick) Durst.  Jerry graduated from Ithaca High School in 1936.  He married Florence Agnes Wankerl on Thanksgiving Day November 20, 1941, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain.  They were married for over 70 wonderful years and lived in the same farmhouse ever since. Survivors include six sons, John Durst of Ithaca, Joe (Kristi) Durst of Sextonville, Lawrence (Mary) Durst of Keyesville, Jerome (Sandy) Durst of Richland Center, David (Donna) Durst of Keyesville, Pete Durst of Keyesville; a daughter, Margaret (Butch) Rossing of Twin Bluffs; 30 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren; 45 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Joe (Lucille) Wankerl of Plain, Tony Wankerl of Sauk; a sister-in-law, Delores Sunder of Minnesota; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Florence Durst; two brothers, Joseph (KIA-World War II) and Francis Durst; two sisters, Margaret Heitke and “Dimp” Lauretta McGlynn; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Durst and Eden “Bubba” Durst; daughter-in-law, Sharon Durst; friend, Charles Lasse; several brothers/sisters-in-law, Ed, Marie, Dorothy, John, Rosie, and Louie. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Keyesville, with Fr. Eric Berns, Monsignor Roger J. Scheckel, Fr. Gary Wankerl, and Fr. Nathan Thainase officiating.  Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Keyesville.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Clary Memorial Funeral Home in Richland Center.  Visitation will also be held at church in Keyesville on Friday, August 25, 2023, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. with a Rosary being held at 9:30 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keyesville. www.clarymemorialfuneralhome.com
