Noreen E. (Kelliher) Oscar

Black Earth – Noreen E. (Kelliher) Oscar passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Agrace HospiceCare with her loving family by her side. Noreen was born to parents, Barth and Dorothy (Schutt) Kelliher on Aug. 23, 1929, growing up in the Greenbush neighborhood of Madison, Wis. She attended and graduated from East High School in 1947, finishing her certificate at Madison Business College.  Noreen also attended Whitewater State Teachers College for a year, where she met Donald E. Oscar. She then married Donald on Oct. 14, 1950, at St. Raphael’s in Madison. Noreen worked as a secretary in the Black Earth schools, later moving on to and retiring from Wisconsin DOT. She served a number of years as a village trustee on the Village Board, the library board and the local Girls Scouts. Noreen was a strong, independent and determined woman who loved her family, friends, and community dearly. After retirement, she enjoyed her daily morning coffee group, continued to be an active community volunteer and was often seen caring for the flowers for the Village of Black Earth or attending meetings and events in the community. She also acted as a caregiver for her sister, Joelyn, and mother, Dorothy. Noreen was chosen as the Grand Marshall for the Black Earth Field Days parade, was a regular customer at the Shoe Box in Black Earth, and seldom missed a family athletic event. Noreen never failed to make holidays and celebrations memorable. She took so much pride in being the best hostess with her decorations, carefully planned activities, and abundance of gifts. Noreen treated her grandchildren to individual sleepovers and shopping trips, cherishing her time with each of them. She even took her family and grandchildren on a Caribbean cruise to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary. Noreen was beyond generous with her time and resources. She was known and loved by so many, especially her family and close friends. She left her mark wherever she went with her quick wit and humor.  Noreen is survived by her three children, Colleen Vidlock, Dean (Susan) Oscar and Karen (Jamie Mullen) Oscar; five grandchildren, Samantha Oscar, Elliott Oscar, Elizabeth (Jon) MacAskill, Kyle Vidlock and Kari Oscar; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years; parents; sister, Joelyn (Lowell) Hohneke; and brother, Bill (Kay) Kelliher.  Thanks Mom and Dad for everything. They are together again.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 24, 2023.
