Lawrence I. Gander

Prairie du Sac--Lawrence I. Gander, age 90, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home in Prairie du Sac on Friday, Mar. 10, 2023. He was born Apr. 12, 1932 to the late Paul and Dorathy (Chroninger) Gander. Larry was a graduate of the Soldiers Grove High School; class of 1950. Following school, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Greenland during the Korean War; being honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant in 1954.
Larry started working for Wisconsin Dairies in Sauk City upon his return from the service. He attended the University of Wisconsin short course and earned his buttermakers certificate. Larry retired after 43 years for Wisconsin Dairies.
Larry was united in marriage to Nettie Vopalensky on Aug. 4, 1956 at the North Clayton Methodist Church near Readstown. He was the Adjutant for the American Legion Kuoni-Reuter Post 167, member of the First United Church of Christ Sauk City, S.P. Optimist Club, and served as a longtime member of the Prairie du Sac Cemetery Board.
He is survived by his wife, Nettie; daughter, Rhonda; son, Gayle (Andrea) Gander and their son, Jacob; sister, Patricia Olson; sister in-laws, Vivian Gander and Marilyn Vopalensky. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Dean Gander; brother, Raymond Gander; sister Pauline Rieck; and brother in-laws, Stanley Olson, Jerry Rieck and John Vopalensky.
A Memorial Service for Larry will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, Mar. 18, 2023 at First United Church of Christ, 504 Washington Ave., Sauk City. A visitation will be held from 12:30 pm until the time of service. Military Honors will be accorded by the Lachmund Cramer VFW Post 7694 and the Kuoni Reuter American Legion Post 167. Interment will be held in the Prairie du Sac Cemetery.
