Obituary: Elmer J. Hackbarth

Elmer J. Hackbarth, age 86, of Reedsburg, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023. He was born on November 16, 1936 in Sheboygan, WI, the son of Elmer Gustav Ferdinand and Goldie Emily (Pauck) Hackbarth. Elmer was united in marriage to Gloria Klegstad on July 17, 1962. This marriage was blessed with five children. Gloria preceded him in death on July 5, 2002. On May 3, 2001, he was united in marriage to Eleanor E. Johnson.

Elmer was 1954 graduate of Reedsburg High School. He farmed on the family farm before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received an education in electronics through the US Army and attended classes with General Motors. He was employed as an electronics technician with AC Delco until his retirement. He enjoyed working on electronics, and was a ham radio operator. Elmer was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Reedsburg, and a member of the VFW Post 1916 and American Legion Post 350.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; second wife, Eleanor on June 10, 2021 and sister, Susan, in infancy.

Elmer is survived by his children, Ronald (Kathy) Hackbarth of Waukesha, Donna Graham of Tomahawk, Judy Hackbarth Streich of Waukesha, Susan Hackbarth Dostal of Franklin, and Mary (Art) Wiese of Mesquite, TX; step-children, Steven (Lisa) Johnson, and Wanda (Dale Darragh) Giesbrecht; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Carol Krueger of Walterloo, Eugene “Gene” Hackbarth of Reedsburg, Dale Hackbarth of California, and Joan Hackbarth of Marshall; many nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Elmer Hackbarth will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 10, 2023, at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg with Pastor Steven Neyhart officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial with Military Honors will be held in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Rock Springs. Memorials of remembrance may be made to Faith Lutheran Church of Reedsburg in lieu of flowers.
