SSM Health featured in coronavirus documentary

A COVID-19 documentary with a regional health care provider will air on NBC 15 this week.

“Behind the Mask” will be broadcast from 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 14. Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Costas will narrate the special.

The show will reveal how medical workers have weathered the pandemic, revealing their courage and resilience, along with their sacrifices.

“The documentary calls all of us to remember those we’ve lost and those who are still suffering,” said SSM Health President and Chief Executive Officer Laura Kaiser. “Most importantly, these stories remind us to join our hearts in gratitude for one another, and all those who walk with us in this journey.”

SSM Health’s origins began with a pandemic. Nearly 150 years ago, five founding sisters formed the organization to help treat those affected by smallpox. Today, the provider has served more than 80,000 people who’ve had or have COVID-19.

The documentary will be aired at NBC affiliates in Madison, Milwaukee and Green Bay, as well as St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Jefferson City and Paducah. It will also be posted on SSM Health’s website.

SSM Health is a Catholic, non-profit health care system serving communities across the Midwest. It has nearly 40,000 employees and 11,000 providers. Its network includes 23 hospitals, 10 post-acute facilities, home care and hospice services, a pharmacy benefit company, a health insurance company, an accountable care organization and nearly 300 physician offices and other outpatient and virtual care services.
