DMV expands online services

Wisconsin residents can now title and register vehicles that have out-of-state titles online.

Transfer applications for titles can be done through the Wisconsin DMV’s website, which offers other services such as applying for driver’s license renewals and requesting copies of licenses, registrations or titles.

According to the DMV, in the last few years, nearly 20 percent of used title transactions were for out-of-state vehicles, which equates to more than 100,000 motorists.

While most dealers process titles for their customers, private buyers and sellers are on their own. The new online system was created to help make the process easier for these individuals, according to the DMV.

Online services can also be used by people who have moved to Wisconsin and need to obtain a state driver’s license and plates. Last year, 50,344 people moved to Wisconsin and required these services.

Drivers 60 and older also have more time to renew their driver’s licenses online. This may done through May 21. The extension is due to the pandemic. Visit wisconsindmv.gov/renewDL to renew or obtain additional information.

Once the deadline passes, motorists 60 and older will need to go to a DMV service center to renew unless the department passes an extension for online services.
