Weston School District helps during holidays

Students and staff with the Weston School District worked to make the holidays a bit more special this year.

Starting with Thanksgiving, the district collaborated with the Knights of Columbus from St. Anthony’s Church to provide meals for the needy. Fifteen Weston families received meal boxes including turkey, potatoes, rolls, dressing, cranberries, corn, milk and pumpkin pie.

Weston’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) held a Pack the Pantry food drive Nov. 16 through Dec. 4. Normally students collect food but changes were made due to COVID-19. Instead of in-person collection, students encouraged donors to leave contributions in school entryways. Donation boxes and collection jars were also left at local business. In the end, the effort raised $1,055 and brought in 1,285 food items.

The school food pantry run by the Weston FFA was restocked, and students also took food boxes to local families. Boxes included milk, butter, bread, ham and a $20 gift certificate to Soltwedel’s Store fore future needs.

Contributors included La Valle Telephone, Royal Bank, Boston Bah, Soltwedel’s Store, Ma & Pa’s Pit Stop, Alibis Bar, Carr Valley Cheese, Hartje Lumber, Fishy’s, Branding Iron Roadhouse, Hillpoint Hideaway, Trailbreak Pizza, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, St. Anthony’s Church and Sandusky United Methodist Church.

In the meantime Weston’s National Honor Society held its giving tree to assist families. The tree featured tags with suggested gifts for children. Participants then purchased the items to benefit children.
