Obituary Ron Bolgren-Schulz

Ron Bolgren-Schulz (nee Ronald John Bolgren) was born in Sauk County on January 21, 1963. He attended special education in Baraboo, Reedsburg, and “Northern Colony” before being reassigned to Richland County services. He was well-blessed to be a fostered member of the Paul and Arlene Bodendein family for many years. He relocated to Sauk County, attended Day Services, and became a treasured part of the Roger and June Loomis family. He participated as an assembler at TC-Enterprises and later VARC where he would have preferred attending Skills Enrichment all seven days a week. Ultimately he joined the Schulz family, was officially adopted and then baptized at St John ELCA on August 24, 1997.
Ron loved attending ARC dances and events with his beloved Gramma Gladys Schulz, strongly preferred doing things his own way, believed van and bus rides should last a minimum of several hours, and had little regard for clocks or calendars. He loved blowing out candles, rattling and thumping packages under the tree, and riding merry-go-rounds over and over and over. He was a world-class shopper, with a preference for stuffed animals and whirligigs that made noise or lit up. He expressed a unique sense of fashion usually involving color-matching shirts and socks plus jewelry.
Ron attended church regularly when he was younger and able, and came to believe that prayer was a good thing, and that potluck should follow every Service.
Although small in stature, Ron was a definite presence in any setting. He was both obstreperous and forgiving with a kind nature. He liked babies and white flowers. He was inquisitive to the point of snoopy, and could “cute” his way out of almost any trouble he got into. Non-verbal but readily vocal, he made his opinions known, either by growls or chuckles, and even more by fixing his ebony-pool eyes on the object of his comment. Whether you were the recipient of the wise gaze, a fiery reprimand or his crinkly-eyed smile, there was no doubt what he had just “said”.
Ron was preceded in death by Paul and Arlene, Roger, Gramma Gladys, and big brother Scott.
He is survived by the Bodendein and Loomis kids, mother Carol, housemate and co-caregiver Wendy, long-time foster brother Brian, Godmother June, special friends Suzanne and Harvey, and a host of medical and program staff who will all smile when he comes to mind. Ron’s family is very grateful for the extraordinary care and support from Inclusa, Dr. Fast of Reedsburg, and especially Dr. Doro of UW-Hospital.
