Obituary: Kathleen M. (Owen) Shaker

Kathleen M. (Owen) Shaker, age 61, of LaValle, formerly of Ironton, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at the University Hospital in Madison.

She was born on September 29, 1958, in Reedsburg, WI, the daughter of Roy I. and Hazel I. (Bauer) Owen. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in LaValle; her faith was very important to her and she enjoyed attending Mass as much as possible. Most importantly, Kathy loved and valued life and everything about it, from family to friends to watering her flowers. Helping people came naturally to her when she worked at the public library and later when becoming a Registered Nurse.

She never wanted people to feel sorry for her. If she did have a limitation, she’d find a way to still get it done. Kathy enjoyed traveling, going to games with loved ones and dancing with friends. When Kathy became a grandmother, her life was even more fulfilling; spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren and enjoying the little things.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Larry “Buck” Owens.

She is survived by her children, Kelly Shaker (Erik Hintze) of Baraboo, Stacey Shaker of LaValle, and Brian Shaker (Leslie Sloniker) of Reedsburg; grandchildren: Gavin Hintze, Piper Hintze, and Chris Shaker; sisters: Marge (Gordon) Rego of Richland Center, and Marie (John) Geitz of LaValle; sister-in-law, Gwen Owen of OH; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Kathy Shaker was conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 15, 2020, at Holy Family Catholic Church in LaValle with Father Sanctus Ibe officiating. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery in Ironton. Visitation was on Friday from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg. A Nightingale service began at 5:00 PM, and the Rosary was prayed at 6:30. Visitation was also held on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.
