Obituary: Joan Marie (Marcks) Bartels

Joan Marie (Marcks) Bartels, age 78, of Reedsburg, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 22, 1942 in Shawano, WI, to Sylvester and Dorothy (Cotter) Marcks. It was there she was united in marriage to Larry Bartels on July 27, 1963. Larry and Joan went on to raise six beautiful children together, Kim, Paul, Mark, Bret, Bart and Scott. Joan truly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Joan and Larry just recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.

Joan always took pride in raising her children and helping with the grandkids.

Joan spent many years working at the Cenex Station here in Reedsburg.

She was a teaching assistant for the Reedsburg School District where she was adored by most. She loved her time spent in her kitchen at home.

Baking and crafting were some of her favorite things. She always catered to each and every kid. She never hesitated to make them all happy. Some other activities she was fond of were her chess club, of course the occasional trip to the casino, and the dinner theatre.

Joan is survived by her husband Larry of Reedsburg; children Mark (Mandy) Bartels, Kim Bartels (fiancé Darren), Paul (Amy), Bret (Peggy), Bart (Kirsten) and Scott (Frances); 11grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters and brothers Diana (Roger) Bohn, Pat (Ed), Jim Marcks, Linda Strauss, and Larry (Annie) Marcks; along with other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Joan was held on Friday, August 7, 2020 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg.  A private family service followed. There will be no Mass at this time. Burial will take place at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Reedsburg.

The Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg is assisting the family.
