Wisconsin Heights students star at Solo & Ensemble Festival

On Saturday, Feb. 29, under the guidance of teachers Aniela Haas and Gina Ademino, Wisconsin Heights High and Middle School band and choir students participated in the Capital Conference South District Solo & Ensemble Festival at Cambridge High School. In December and January students chose a musical selection from the WI School Music Association Festival Music List to study, and practiced their piece during class, in the evening at school with their accompanist, and at home before performing their piece in front of an adjudicator and audience. The adjudicator provides feedback regarding their performance and rates the student’s efforts between 1-5, with special opportunity of a 1* (one star) to those students performing at the highest level with a Class A piece, thus advancing to the state competition. At the high school level, there were 44 events. Out of those 44 events, 42 received a 1 rating, and 24 of those events that received a 1 rating also received a *(star)! 32 high school band students and 27 high school choir students are advancing to the state festival, with some of those students participating in both band and choir. Congratulations to all students who participated in the festival, and to those who will continue to practice for the State Solo & Ensemble Festival held on Saturday April 25 at the UW-Platteville campus.
