Vernagene R. “Gene” Sawyer

Wisconsin Dells) Vernagene  (Genie)  Doering Sawyer, age 84, passed away on Feb.10, 2020.  She was  born  on April 24, 1935 in Marshfield, WI. to Elston “Al” and Pearl Doering. The family moved to Prairie du Sac in 1951 and she graduated  from Prairie du Sac High School in 1953. Gene married Al Sawyer, an Air force recruit, in 1954. She and Al  lived  in Italy, Illinois, Alaska, Minnesota and Oklahoma. Gene eventually settled in the Wisconsin Dellswhere she owned two small businesses - Country Crossroads Mobile Home Park and Immaculate Cleaning Service. During her lifetime she was a Florist receiving several awards for flower arrangement design and one could find her in her flower garden wherever she lived. She was an artist who loved the theater, music, and most anything related to the Fine Arts. Vernagene is survived by two sons, Dennis and Steven Sawyer of Oklahoma, and two daughters, Sandi Brock of Oklahoma and Cheri  Roman of Wisconsin Dells, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, and a sister Donna (Art) Yngsdal  of Prairie du Sac, WI., 2 nephews and 2 nieces and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded  in death by a granddaughter, Beverli Maddux,  brother Donald Doering and sister-in-law Peg Doering. Funeral  Services  were held held at Hooverson  Funeral Home, Sauk City on February 14th, 2020 at 11 a.m. Visitation took  place at 10 a.m.
