On one hand, Sauk Prairie’s football team was thrilled to begin its season last Friday. After months of uncertainty, the Eagles were just happy to have football back.
On the other hand, this certainly wasn’t the debut they were looking for.
Deep. Talented. Experienced.
Sauk Prairie’s girls volleyball team seems to have it all this fall. And the Eagles put those qualities on full display last week.
Sauk Prairie won matches over both Watertown and Portage during the week. The Eagles then won the Richland Center Triangular on Saturday.
Sauk Prairie’s doubles teams were at their best.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, they couldn’t break through in singles play.
The result was an exciting 4-3 loss to DeForest on Sept. 22.
Sauk Prairie won all three doubles matches, but the Norskies won all four singles matches.
Sauk Prairie’s cross country teams were running on fumes.
But the Eagles still ran well enough to cruise past Lodi on Sept. 21.
Sauk Prairie’s boys downed Lodi, 21-35, while the Eagles’ girls rolled to a 21-38 win.
The Eagles had competed just 48 hours earlier in a dual meet at Beaver Dam.
Clay Iverson has had success coaching football wherever he’s gone.
Iverson inherited a 2-7 team at Pewaukee, then proceeded to have seven consecutive winning seasons. He took over a Mukwonago program that had gone six straight years without reaching the playoffs, then led the Indians to the postseason three out of four years.
Nine starters from last year’s conference championship team are gone.
A senior class that took Sauk Prairie’s boys soccer to new heights has graduated.
When it comes to expectations, though, nothing has changed for the Eagles.
Sauk Prairie’s girls tennis team continued its terrific start to the 2020 season.
The Eagles won three of four matches last week, downing Fort Atkinson, Portage and Reedsburg, and losing to Waunakee.

Sauk Prairie’s girls swimming and diving team rolled past Beaver Dam, 117-52, on Sept. 15.
The Eagles shined in the relays, finishing first and second in all three of those events.
