Naturally Speaking: Feeding wildlife

Don’t forget the wildlife, particularly the birds and fox/gray squirrels. 

A few birds, even though the orioles are long gone, will take citrus. 

Turkey and other bird carcasses will be picked clean by a number of species; even squirrels love the meat, it seems. 

Almost anything is appetizing to hungry birds.

Local seat up for election on Corn Board

A Lodi resident is running for the District 6 seat on the Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board.

Ryan Ripp is running for the district, which encompasses Sauk and Dane counties.

Corn producers have until Jan. 10 to vote.

Make plan to drive sober this holiday season

The Wisconsin State Patrol asks drivers to prioritize safety this season and plan for a sober ride home from holiday celebrations.

 Officers have stepped up enforcement to stop impaired driving during the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. The national effort runs through New Year’s Day.

International Crane Foundation seeks specialty DMV plate

The International Crane Foundation hopes to receive a specialty license plate through the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles.

If approved, motorists will be able to obtain the plate to show their support for the Foundation.

Sauk County offers free Narcan training

Public Health Sauk County has launched new e-learning training for the use of Narcan.

Narcan is a nasal spray that is used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

Sauk County’s training is free, self-paced and available anytime.

The County also offers live training.

Discourage youth gambling this holiday season

This holiday season, the Wisconsin Lottery is working with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) and the International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviors at McGill University to build awareness that lottery products are not an appropriate gift for minors.
