Naturally speaking: Identifying bird nests

Bird identification uses characters beyond appearance. 

Songs and other vocalizations are a familiar place to begin without the bird in hand, so to speak. Phone apps help by identifying using recorded sounds.

Nests are easiest to locate during winter when leaves have fallen from deciduous trees.
