Sometimes you just have to act on a good idea. Dr. Leah Ederer, family practice physician at Sauk Prairie Healthcare, organized a new fundraiser on Thursday, March 19 at Riviera Bowl, Sauk City.
Called “Bowlin’ for Colon,” the event brought 64 people together to bowl and raise funds for Sauk Prairie Healthcare Foundation to support colon screening, education, and really anything colon related. Dr. Ederer said, “When I heard about a similar fundraiser in another local area, I thought it would be a great fit here in Sauk Prairie. We have a great community and the people here deserve the best. Bringing awareness to all cancers is important. Remember, if you are over the age of 45 you should have a colonoscopy.”
The group included four “celebrity bowlers” from Sauk Prairie Healthcare’s General Surgery department. They were Dr. Ted Parins, Dr. Clay Dean, Dr. Raquel Abengozar and Physicians Assistant Bob Volk.
The bowlers raised $753.70.
“This was a really fun event that Dr. Ederer put together,” said Todd Wuerger, Executive Director of Sauk Prairie Healthcare Foundation. “My family and I participated and had a great time for a good cause.”
Participants paid $10 per person for unlimited bowling, which included games and shoe rental. There was also a 50/50 raffle and a strike-a-thon that contributed to the total.
“We are so grateful to Dr. Ederer for creating Bowlin’ for Colon. We hope it will be an annual event,” Todd said.
