Thanks to the thoughtful contributions of community members, the Library Board of Trustees and library staff, RPL has a new strategic plan for 2021 through 2026!
Early in 2021, a community survey, staff inservice and facilitated conversation with the library board were used to identify the library’s strengths and weaknesses. With the help of consultants from WiLS (Wisconsin Library Services), the written plan was completed in July. Library staff is eager to complete development of and to begin implementing objectives for each of four goal areas directly related to continuing and expanding the library’s services to, and presence in, the community. Each goal is summarized by a short tagline title.
--We are Stronger Together emphasizes the development of partnerships and relationship building in the community. The Library is looking forward to increasing connections with area businesses in Reedsburg, as well as with civic and educational organizations. Survey results indicated that many believe an increase in cooperation between the local schools and the public library should be a top priority.
--Growing with Our Community addresses the community’s desire for relevant library programming and an availability of the print and electronic resources that are in demand. Objectives in accomplishing this goal include identifying programs that library users want to see, and improving collection development for books as well as audiovisual and digital items.
--Building Toward Our Future considers the physical and virtual space needs of the library. Reconfiguring existing physical space to better serve both customers and staff as well as looking ahead at how best to meet the space needs of the library and community in the coming years comprise one aspect of this goal. The community survey indicated that improvements to the library webpage would facilitate greater use of the library’s online finding aids, databases and digital resources. The option of mobile library services to bring checkout of materials and programs to businesses, community events and schools will also be considered.
--Finally, Sharing the Library Story emphasizes the marketing of library services to our regular users as well as those in the community who may not be aware of them. Community survey responses indicated a growing interest in library communication via social media outlets, in addition to the more traditional means currently employed.
Library staff is working through action steps for the objectives enumerated for each goal and a timeline for its completion in the next five years. Reedsburg Public Library’s Director will regularly update the Library Board on the progress made in implementing the plan.
