Reedsburg Public Library wraps up summer, looks ahead to fall

In the coming week, Reedsburg Public Library’s summer program wraps up with the final days of reporting for literacy challenge participants, while library staff prepare for a new school year and upcoming fall programs. Saturday, Aug. 14, is the final day to report summer reading on the online Beanstack platform for Little Farmhands, Safari Explorers, Deep Sea Divers and adults. Be sure to have all of your reading entered, and virtual tickets submitted for the grand prize drawing! Completion prizes and other earlier reading rewards may be picked up at the library’s service desk through Aug. 31.

Now may be the perfect time to get a library card before the rush of the new school year! To get a library card, simply bring your photo identification to the library’s main service desk. If the address on the photo ID is not correct, also bring in a piece of mail with your current address. After filling out a brief application you will be immediately issued a card. Youth under the age of 16 need a parent’s signature on the application. The library card gives access to the resources of Reedsburg Public Library, other South Central Library System libraries, as well as digital items through Wisconsin’s Digital Library and Hoopla.

Area teachers may also apply for a Teacher Card to keep materials for their classrooms separate from their personal library books. A brief application with the signature of the school’s principal is required for the card.

Library card applications for regular and teacher cards can be printed from the library’s website at www.reedsburglibrary.org. Teachers may also reach out to Youth Services Librarian Jess McCarlson to schedule either a class visit to the library or a classroom presentation. How to Do Research at the Library or author book talks have been popular in the past.

The Friends of the Library book sale will be held from Thursday, Sept. 9, to Sunday, Sept. 12, during regular library hours. The thrice-yearly sale was on hiatus during the pandemic, but is back and will feature donations from before the pandemic, and items that have been weeded from the library’s collection. The library is again accepting donations for the sale beginning Wednesday, Aug. 25.

Fall library programming begins the week of Sept. 20, with the return of all library favorites including Babygarten, Storytime, Family Fun Night, After School Book Club and Teen Time. Check the library’s website at www.reedsburglibrary.org for the upcoming schedule, and specifics on each program.
