Driver dies in traffic crash

A motorist passed away in a collision in Rock Springs on Dec. 5.

At about 2:30 a.m., the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office and other departments responded to a report of a crash on East Broadway Street. A preliminary investigation found that a single vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control and collided with a structure, which was on fire. The lone occupant of the vehicle was pronounced at the scene by the Sauk County coroner.

The subject’s name was not released, and the incident remains under investigation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Assisting at the scene were North Freedom Fire, Baraboo Fire, Reedsburg Fire, Reedsburg Area Ambulance Service, Alliant Energy, Sauk County Highway Department, Village of Rock Springs Public Works, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and the coroner’s office.
